Welcome to the first official “Beef Corner” article, this will be the first of many articles we will be posting, to give hip hop fans a sort of historical insight into some of Hip Hop’s most talked about Beefs. Today we will be taking a look at the whole Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy beef, since it looks like Gucci Mane brought it back up in recent months.

Imagine you are in ATL back in 2005. That’s when a freshly signed Def Jam artist by the name of Young Jeezy helped write and preform a track called “Icy” with fellow up and coming Atlanta artist Gucci Mane. The song was an instant hit reaching its way to the #5 spot on the Billboards Hot 100. This is where the beef started: Jeezy claimed he was never paid for his work on the song.

In retaliation for not being paid, it is rumored Jeezy had Gucci Mane beat up. Jeezy also put out the first diss record in this beef “Stay Strapped”. In “Stay Strapped” Jeezy put out a $10,000 bounty for Gucci Mane’s pendant. On May 10, 2005 Gucci shot and killed one of the five assailants (Henry “Pookie Loc” Clark) who allegedly took to Young Jeezy’s challenge. Gucci maintained that he was acting in self-defense and the murder charges were dropped.

In “Stay Strapped” Jeezy spits over T.I.’s “A.S.A.P.” dropping lines such as ” even his own momma know, Radric Davis a bitch”. Radric Davis is Gucci’s Government name.

Gucci strikes back on the Mixtape “The Hood News Page 3: Jay-Z Boycotts Cristal” Gucci disses Jeezy along with Jay-Z in his track, “745”. On the same mixtape Jeezy addresses Gucci, while on the track “Break It Down”, featuring Cmillz.

On “Streets On Lock”, from The Inspiration, Jeezy addressed Gucci Mane again, saying “What type of real nigga name himself after a bag?/Nigga you’s a hoe, a Louis Vuitton fag”.

In 2009 DJ Drama gets both rappers to publicly squash the beef. But in 2011 Artist from both Gucci’s and Jeezy’s camp begin to start their own little beefs “Waka Flocka vs. Slick Pulla. Gucci nor Jeezy ever responded or jumped in… Well that is until last month!

In early October Gucci Mane was on Power 105.1’s “Breakfast Club” where out of no where he raises the dead and disses Jeezy. On New York’s most popular radio station Gucci says “He Has No Respect For Jeezy”. The Internet was running crazy which prompted Jeezy to reply while on “Big Boys Neighborhood” where he says Gucci is just mad he didnt get on a song with him… “I feel like everybody know that boy retarded, nobody take him seriously.” He added, “He got an ice cream cone on his face. That being said, I’m not going back. I’m going forward. And then it’s crazy because they’ll call you and want you on songs. And then when you don’t get on a song, that’s what happens.”

The same day as Jeezy replies, Gucci Mane released the diss track and video “Truth”. In the track he raps lines such as “I did a song with Keyshia Cole and I know you still miss her/ But Puff was f***ing her while you was falling in love with her” Gucci was talking about Jeezy’s Ex Keyshia Cole having an affair with P. Diddy while she was still in a relationship with him. Gucci also raps “Go dig your partna up, bet he can’t say shit” which is in reference to Gucci shooting and killing an associate from Jeezy.

Gucci also tweeted out he would bet $100k that he could whoop Jeezy’s ass. Jeezy has not yet replied to Gucci’s “Truth” or the tweets. Only time will tell if this beef will continue or has Jeezy felt like he no longer needs to continue this beef. But until then Gucci has started dissing other rappers including Nick Minaj, Yo Gotti and French Montana…. but that’s for another time!
